It is OK not to breastfeed!
Breastfeeding can be a wonderful, empowering and sometimes challenging experience. It is also a learning process for both you and your baby. If you choose to chestfeed there might be times when it feels tough - physically, and emotionally. I want you to know that you are not alone, many parents have some difficulty with breastfeeding, and I am here to support you and your choices. Whether you are having difficulty with latch, supply, the demands of feeding, or something else, your feelings are valid and important.
Your feeding goals may change over time, and that is natural. Your needs, your baby’s needs, and your family’s needs will continue to evolve over time. There is no one right way to feed your baby, and what matters is that your baby is nourished and loved. Whether you breastfeed, feed expressed human milk, formula feed, or use a combination of feeding methods, fed is best. What is best for you and your entire family matters.
I want to emphasize that the needs, comfort, and desires of the lactating parent are important. Chestfeeding can only be best when it works for everyone involved. If you decide that breastfeeding isn’t the right choice for you, or that you want to stop for any reason, I fully support you. It is essential that you feel comfortable with whatever decision you make, knowing that feeding your baby is beautiful and loving no matter the method. You are doing an amazing job, you are a fantastic parent, and I support you and your choices. Your feeding goals are my feeding goals, no matter what those goals look like.
